The sugar city of Bundaberg is located on the banks of the Burnett River around 360km north of Brisbane. The Coral Coast is only 14km drive northeast of Bundaberg with the popular beachside centre of Bargara. Bargara is ideally placed for visitors joining the night turtle watching tours at nearby Mon Repos Conservation Park which take place during the turtle nesting season that begins in November and continues through to when the turtle hatchlings emerge from their sandy nests during the summer months and into March. The Southern Great Barrier Reef begins off the Coral Coast at the coral cays of Lady Elliot and Lady Musgrave Islands.
