Lying on the Tropic of Capricorn, the Central Queensland city of Rockhampton offers a wide selection of accommodation with hotels and apartments and boutique accommodation ranging from modern to heritage buildings that mix contemporary facilities in the grandeur of yesteryear. From your hotel or apartment balcony enjoy views of the mighty Fitzroy River that divides the city or book one of several modern motels on the main approach roads and near to the city centre.
It is just a half hour’s drive from Rockhampton to Yeppoon, the main centre of the Capricorn Coast. A popular beach escape, Yeppoon offers a good choice of holiday apartments, motels, caravan and holiday village accommodation while to the north is the landmark Mercure Capricorn Resort with its two championship golf courses. At the northern end of the Capricorn Coast are Byfield National Park and the small community of Byfield with artists’ studios and characterful holiday hideaways. The Capricorn Coast continues south of Yeppoon to Roslyn Bay and its marina and resort then continues to the coastal community of Emu Park.
Head inland to the Central Highlands and the Gemfields of Sapphire and Rubyvale where you can stay in modern motel accommodation while you spend some time fossicking for gems. Emerald is the main centre for the Central Highlands with a range of motel options while to the south is the spectacular Carnarvon Gorge with bush resort accommodation. Closer to Rockhampton, you can taste life on a cattle property with a farmstay in a self-contained cabin.
Capricorn Region in Central Queensland offers a taste of regional Australia from the coast to the country and city.
