Airlie Beach is the centre of mainland activity and its postcard setting on the edge of the aquamarine waters of Pioneer Bay make it a favourite with both international and Australian travellers. It’s the launching point for so many of the daytrips such as cruises to the Great Barrier Reef, sailing excursions and watersports and its combination of cafes, lively bars, nightclubs, shops and local markets makes it the perfect base for discovering the Whitsundays.
To really see and appreciate this beautiful part of the coast you need at least a few days and preferably longer so apartment accommodation is especially popular, allowing you more space and the convenience of being able to do some self catering. Choose from properties situated by the edge of the water at one of the rocky promontories or enjoy a panoramic view from the hills and terraces above the town centre. The views are spectacular and the properties range from boutique luxury to affordable and comfortable.
Airlie Beach also offers hotel and resort accommodation, motels and holiday parks with all the activities and facilities of a major resort, or perhaps a rainforest retreat is more your taste. For young travellers on a budget Airlie also has lots of backpacker options allowing you to save on where you stay to be able to spend on how you play to enjoy all of the tours on offer.
Hamilton Island is the largest of the island resorts and includes its own airport, a village with shops and cafes and a golf course. A great destination for a tropical holiday, Hamilton Island’s accommodation options include apartments that are ideal for a family vacation.
